The fabulous Megan Lara came to our attention last year with her Art Nouveau illustrations of science fiction heroines. Now she's back with a line of licensed Battlestar Galactica posters, interpreting the series' complex women through the lens of various painters.
Lara manages to make her homages in a style that evokes each individual artist while casting her subjects in a new light. Starbuck takes on the glamor of Tamara de Lempicka's Art Deco style, yet retains her trademark smirk. Caprica Six, in a painting that invokes John Singer Sargent's portrait of the Parisian socialite "Madame X" acknowledges the cylon's beauty but retains notes of thoughtfulness rather than pride.
With the exception of the Roy Lichtenstein-style Six portrait, these 18" x 24" posters will beavailable as a set from Quantum Mechanix for $34.95. (The posters are currently available for pre-order.) The pop art Number Six is available separately as a Comic-Con exclusive.
